Currently listening to: Aqualung - "Brighter than Sunshine"
For the first few months of college, I was terrified of venturing into Portland on my own. Imagine everything that is bad (and only bad) in the world and bundle those thoughts within a vivid imagination, and you'll see what my mind's eye perceived as my future should I dare attempt the impossible with my navigational skills (or lack thereof).
At some point, I determined that the thing that I wanted was to go. I slowly but certainly began getting lost within the beauty of the City (nevermind my tardiness to appointments: secretaries can be so tactless, anyway).
Badly Drawn Boy directs one, "get off at the next stop, don't worry about a thing" in his track "Four Leaf Clover." Incidentally, I listened to that song a lot on the bus.
It always takes some time to gather the guts to get on the bus. And then, of all things! you've got to pick a stop. Preposterous, I know, but at least it's very comforting to know that, should the stop be incorrect, one can walk to the next intersection, or the next one, or the next one yet.
Because, after all, there is a lot of time.
